    The Suite Life of Teddy

Even though Teddy doesn’t live in a hotel like Brenda Song’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody dog Yvonna, he lives a pretty sweet life. He is loved (and spoiled) by all of the members of his family, especially his “Mommy” Brenda Song. “He’s not even our puppy, he’s our baby,” says Song of Teddy. Song also argues with her brother over who will get Teddy when they move out; she says she gets to keep Teddy because he is her baby. “I feel sometimes that… I birthed Teddy.”

Ladies, take note: Teddy is quite the mama’s boy. Says Song, “For all the holidays, we buy Teddy gifts and Teddy buys us gifts. Last year, I got a Wish necklace with a dog bone that says “I Love Mommy”, and I have a big frame that says “Teddy Loves Mommy”.” She’s also very protective of her baby. “I haven’t met a puppy good enough for my Teddy yet… Teddy will always be mine. I’ll be the only girl in his life.”

Teddy’s sweet life also involves hanging around with the other celebrity pets on the set of The Suite Life. Dylan and Cole Sprouse, who play the title characters, have two bulldogs: an English Bulldog named Bubba and a French Bulldog named Curry. Teddy enjoys playing with them, but also tormenting them. Song describes his tricks: “They’ll be in the school room, and he’ll go and he’ll bark at them… And then, when Bubba wakes up, he’ll run all the way down to my dressing room and hide.” Teddy also runs around with Ashley Tisdale’s dogs, Blondie and Maui. Apparently, Blondie, the biggest, is afraid of Teddy, while Teddy is afraid of Maui, who is smaller than him. “So it’s literally they just chase each other around. Blondie won’t play with him, and then Maui will come and Teddy won’t play with her. It’s really funny.” It sounds like there are as many antics backstage as there are in the show!

Despite their differences, all of the dogs came together to celebrate Teddy’s birthday. Song threw Teddy a big party, complete with a doggie cake. The cake was probably gourmet, as Teddy doesn’t eat dog food. When the Songs make dinner, they cook up a portion without salt just for Teddy. “He’s a pampered puppy,” says Song. “He’s our perfect dog.”

    Kidsday interviews Brenda Song

BY AYLIN CASTILLO, BRUCE LANDY AND LISETTE ROMO, Kidsday Reporters, Ages 10 and 11, Corona and Elmhurst

We met actress Brenda Song while she was in New York recently. She stars as London Tipton on the Disney show "Suite Life on Deck."

How do you feel about working on "The Suite Life on Deck"?

I have so much fun. We have all become a family. I love London. I love literally stepping into her shoes every single day. I miss her when I am not playing her. Phill is like my second dad. The crew is really like a family. We have a good time.

Is your real life closet the same as it is on the show?

I wish. I think London is a little crazier than I am. I would take some of her pieces because I am a little more casual. I love some of her pieces, I especially love her shoes.

Ever since you have been famous, how has your life changed?

Not really. My two brothers drive me insane but they also keep me really sane. Especially when the show first came out, we didn't think anybody watched it. We would met people who watched the show and would have comments we would be so shocked. Because we had no idea. We just put so much love and hard work into the show. I haven't changed too much I get to do really cool things like come to New York and meet you guys.

    Scholastic Choices

Brenda Song opens up in the April/May 2009 issue of Scholastic Choices about her mother’s battle with breast cancer.

Having a seriously ill mother is scary, especially for a teenager. Brenda went through periods where she cried and felt sorry for herself – which is normal – but then she realized that any anxiety she was feeling was nothing compared to what her mom was experiencing.

"Why let my mom go through this alone," Brenda says, 'When all of us in our family can help her get through it?"

Brenda learned all she could about breast cancer so she could talk to her mom about it, and she's determined to use the experience to help others.

“We can’t help what’s going to happen in life or what life is going to throw at us. But we can control what decisions we make.”

Brenda stopped by the office of Seventeen magazine to talk about "The Suite Life on Deck" and her new movie "Boogie Town."

What's it like working with Dylan and Cole Sprouse on "The Suite Life on Deck"? Brenda says the guys can't get away with pranks the way they used to. "I’m the one that puts them in their place. They come to me for problems now. Our dynamic has changed a lot over the years."

Is she anything like her character LondonTipton?  "I’m not a hotel heiress! But I do have two brothers that drive me insane. I think the only thing we have in common is that I would love to have her closet. She kind of taps into that little diva part of me that every girl has, whether it’s very deep or it's just hanging out on top. I admit that I literally love stepping into her shoes every day. She’s so fun!"

K.O. Pemberton, Lead Editor of MSN TV, chatted with Brenda about life at sea, Ashley Tisdale, and cooking.

Playing the melodramatic, but likable, hotel heiress London Tipton, Brenda Song is one of the reasons why the "Suite Life" franchise remains one of the most successful and highly rated series in the Disney Channel stable.

Brenda says it's great to be back for a second season and to spend more time with her "second family."   There's a lot to look out for this year, including "Suite Life" going to HD, and "a lot of relationships are being explored," Brenda says.  Although Ashley Tisdale and Kim Rhodes are no longer on the show, Ashley returned for the episode "Maddie on Deck."

"It was so nice to be back on the set where we got close," says Brenda.  "I see her so much off the set as well, so it was just like going back to 'The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.'  Ashley truly is like my sister, so I miss her."

Tanya Sangpun Thamkruphat of 13 Minutes magazine talked with Brenda Song about her pretty suite life.

Brenda became interested in acting by watching "Star Search" as a kid. She decided she wanted to be on TV, so she started doing commercials before breaking into series television and movies.  "The thing I love most about acting is playing different characters and meeting all the different and diverse people," Brenda says.

When asked her thoughts about the recognition of Asian-Americans in the entertainment industry, Brenda pointed out that while she was growing up the only Asian-Americans she'd seen on TV were Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee.  "The opportunities are still limited," she says, "But now there are definitely more roles out there."

Brenda is half Thai and half Hmong. Although she's never been to Thailand, she'd love to visit someday.  "If the opportunity came for me to work in Thailand, I'd be very interested. I love to try new things."

Her final words included a message for aspiring actors to believe in themselves, "stay focused, and work hard.  Don't get discouraged."  And lastly, "I'd just like to thank everyone for watching the show and always supporting me."

    The Star Scoop – Interview

Shortly after starting "The Suite Life with Zack and Cody," Brenda talked to TheStarScoop.com about the series.

She'd done so many Disney projects that she didn't have to audition for the role of London, it was offered to her. She thought it sounded like fun, and – like most people - wondered what it's like to live in a hotel. "So [the show] kind of give people  an inside look and the inside scoop on what it's like [to live in a hotel.]  I mean, it's way exaggerated, but it's fun.  And when it comes to the hotel they get this whole cast and array of characters.  They're all just kind of thrown in this big circus and we just kind of see what happens!"

    The Star Scoop Magazine

In an interview with this online entertainment magazine, Brenda talks about getting started in the business, her huge range of acting credits, and all the characters she's played.

Brenda Song has come a long way since her first job – a commercial for Little Caesar's Pizza when she was five-years-old.  She's amassed an extensive list of credits since then, both in films and television.

"Each and every job is a different experience, it's a new experience," Brenda says. "And every character is different. So I don't really have a preference [over doing films or television], 'cause I just want to keep working! So if I get a movie or a TV show, it doesn't really matter to me. I just like doing this and so it hasn't made any difference whether it's on film, or TV."

She's Got Chops: Her Disney Channel movie "Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior" was loaded with supernatural special effects – but Brenda's martial-arts skills were totally real.  "I got my black belt [in tae kwon do] two years ago," she says. "For my test, I had to break a brick with my hand." She did it, but adds, "My hand was all bloody and scabbed."

Next Up: She's currently filming more episodes of "Zack & Cody," Brenda says. "After all, she's got great shoes."

Brenda loves to cook, so she was excited when Disney approached her about doing these segments. Although her favorite food is Mexican and Italian, she'll try anything and considers herself a pretty adventurous eater. But there is something that she will absolutely not eat – mayonnaise!  "I cannot deal with the texture."
