Brenda Song plays Wendy, a popular teen whose goal is to be homecoming queen until her life is turned upside down by a visit from a young Chinese monk, Shen (Shin Koyamada ). He claims Wendy is the reincarnation of a powerful female warrior and the only person who can prevent an ancient evil spirit from destroying the world.
He begs Wendy to wear a powerful amulet that will protect her from evil until he can train her in martial arts. But Wendy has better things to do than rescue civilization, and she is frankly appalled at Shen's lack of fashion sense. Faced with the choice between fighting evil and going shopping, Wendy is off to the mall in a heartbeat.
But Wendy's grandmother knows that Shen is speaking the truth. When an evil warrior materializes and a dark spirit possesses Wendy's brother, her principal, her dog, her boyfriend, her teachers and even her homecoming queen rival, Wendy trains in the martial arts and releases her inner heroine.
The film was shot almost entirely in Auckland, New Zealand.

Wendy Wu actually started off as an idea for a series, but then evolved into a movie. I had so much fun working on this film. A lot of people didn’t know that I did martial arts, so it was fun to share this other side of me. And I loved New Zealand! It was so peaceful and beautiful.
There's been talk of a sequel, but nothing official…yet.
